The Role of Traditional Institutions in Mitigating Herder-Farmer Conflict in Northcentral Nigeria

Angela Ajodo-Adebanjoko

Project Summary

This research provides insight into the role of traditional institutions in addressing emerging security threats in Northcentral Nigeria, currently a theatre of conflict between pastoralists and farmers. While there have been clashes between both groups for decades, their frequency in recent times and the lack of solution in sight have become worrisome. The study adopts qualitative  methods and secondary sources in generating data. It will build on existing good practice and recommendations from the fields of peace and conflict studies. Specifically, it will contribute to efforts to address threats to peace in the northcentral area in particular, and Nigeria in general.
