Women, Environmental Conflict and Peacebuilding in Extractive Communities in Nigeria’s Oil-rich Niger Delta

Abosede Babatunde

Project Summary

My proposed research will provide insights into the intersection of oil, environment, conflict, gender and peacebuilding from Feminist Political ecology perspectives. The study draws on qualitative research approach and analysis of secondary data on the experiences, and roles the Niger Delta women in the environmental conflicts and the impacts on the peacebuilding processes in the oil-rich and restive region. The overarching goal of this research project is to contribute to efforts to address the environmental conflicts, improve the wellbeing and security of the marginalised local women and ordinary people in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
